The Position

The City of Seattle is seeking a forward thinking, innovative HR professional to lead the Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT’s) human resource function. This HR Leader will have proven business acumen and will thrive on the challenge of bringing high levels of HR operational excellence and service standards to the organization that are aligned with the strategic vision for the City. The SDOT HR Director’s scope of responsibility covers planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and managing HR programs and guidelines in support of City and departmental organizational objectives.

Working with the Seattle Department of Human Resources (SDHR), this position will take the lead in implementing process strategies and projects necessary to support SDOT’s human resource needs. As a member of SDOT’s leadership team this position will be responsible for service delivery by providing expert direction and guidance to employees and management staff for a department of nearly 800 employees. This person will also be a key contributor in shaping the direction of SDHR as it promotes an equitable and engaging work environment that enables employees to do their best work and make a difference for the people and communities they serve.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Law or a related field or equivalent experience. Also requires superior strategic thinking, creative problem-solving and analytical skills, six years of professional level HR generalist experience, and at least five years of experience managing and supervising professional staff, including hiring and performance management. Public sector HR experience is preferred. The most competitive candidates will have a Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources or closely related field. Legal experience is a plus.

Anticipated start salary: $120,000 – $130,000, DOQ
