The Position

The Broward County Library system (BCL) is the ninth largest in the nation and offers over 1.5 million square feet of library space at 40 library locations. BCL provides materials and services in a variety of languages for over 1.8 million residents. The Department has about 635 permanent positions, 160 part-time positions and approximately 60 grant-funded positions. The FY16 Adopted Operating Budget is almost $60.5 million. The Director of Libraries is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the County Library system. The Director oversees the administration and direction of the operations of the Library system, including the development of policy, supervision of professional personnel, planning, and organization of services to the public and development of administrative procedures. Requires a master’s in library science from an ALA accredited school and six years of experience in a large multiservice library system, including four years high level supervisory and administrative experience. Experience in a comparably sized governmental organization is desirable. Familiarity with the state of Florida Sunshine Law and working with unions is also a plus.
