The Position

Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) is unique in that it provides several water-related services: domestic water; sanitation (wastewater treatment); recycled water; irrigation with imported water and agricultural drainage; groundwater replenishment; regional stormwater protection; and, management of the Coachella Valley’s multitude of water resources and conservation. CVWD has a five-year Capital Improvement Plan of approximately $701 million and a staff of more than 500. The Director of Engineering directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for: the planning, design and construction of CVWD capital assets; construction management and inspection; management of CVWD right-of-way and encroachment permit system; survey and technical services; development services; and Colorado River and State Water Project program support. Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (a master’s degree is preferred); AND ten years of broad and extensive senior management experience in the operation, planning, design, construction and maintenance of domestic water, wastewater (sanitation), nonpotable water, stormwater, irrigation/drainage, groundwater recharge and general district facilities. Also requires the ability to obtain within two years a valid certification of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the State of California.
