The Position
Located in Oakland, CA, the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District is one of the largest public bus-only systems in the nation. It has a service area that spans 13 cities, 9 unincorporated areas and two counties and over 360 square miles along the eastern shores of San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. The District’s 700 buses provide more than 71 million boardings per year.
Appointed by and reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Counsel is the District’s chief legal officer and manages the attorney staff and activities of the Legal Department which has a FY 2011-2012 operating budget of $11.2 million. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and membership in the California State Bar; and 10 years experience in the practice of civil law that included litigation; and at least 3 years experience directing subordinate attorneys and the professional and administrative staff of a law firm or legal department. Experience in advising a public entity on open meeting laws, conflict of interest law, and the conduct and principles of public meetings is also required.
